Townhouse Renovation
Montgomery Place
Brooklyn, New York

The entry area of this apartment on the two upper floors of a 19th century town house was transformed to allow for a generous entry and to use borrowed light from a skylight in the stairs above and from the garden windows in the space beyond the entry. A "silent butler", incorporating an umbrella stand, a bar, a light table, a key holder and a tilt-up mirror, completes the entry hall furniture. The kitchen, adjacent to the entry, was entirely outfitted with concealed appliances to suggest a "butler's pantry". The countertops are limestone, the floor is in cork and the wood is stained solid birch plywood.
